Things to do in the Area

The cottage is ideally situitated to take advantage of the fabulous array of actitives and attractions available in Mid Wales. Activities range from walking to mountain biking, riding to rallying, and the events of the Royal Welsh Show Ground, you'll find there is something for everyone. There are great castles, houses, gardens and mines to explore. Friendly pubs and fine restaurants to replenish the weary soul. And you will find all of these within a short drive of the cottage. Below is listed a selection of activities, and at the cottage you will find guides, maps to help you make the most of your stay.

  National Cycle Collection

The bicycle has been part of the national consciousness for many hundreds of years, and is still an everyday object that many of us rely on for work, leisure and exercise. This museum carries a large collection of bikes that date from the earliest models and prototypes all the way through to the most modern and hi-tech pieces that exists today. Lose yourself amongst this interesting exhibition of bikes.

  Walking in Mid-Wales

Mid-Wales offers some of the finest scenery, ranging from rolling hills, woodland and country lanes to open hills, reservoirs and mountains. If you enjoy walking then this is the place to be. At the cottage we have the local maps and already walked routes for the area. You can walk on your own or join one of the walking events we have here in Llanwrtyd Wells at various times of the year.

  Mountian Biking

Llanwrtyd Wells was one of the first places in Wales to offer serious routes and fascilities for mountain biking. There are numerous routes direct from the cottage door step which explore the Irfon Valley, southern reaches of the Cambrian Mountains , Llyn Brianne and Dothie Valley (famed for a stunning single track route). Coed Trallwm is located up the valley from the cottage and offers three purpose built single track  trails. There are routes to suit all abilities and range from 1 hour to spending the whole day exploring the stunning scenery. Route maps and guides are provided at the cottage. Bike hire is available in the town.

  Horse Riding

If you fancy a ride out in the beautiful Abergwesyn Valley, trek through the Crychan Forest, swim the horses in the Wash Pool or enjoy a quiet ride by Dulais , Cammarch or Irfon rivers led by experienced guides, Ffos Farm is able to offer all of this subject to availablity and weather conditions. Ffos Farm is a small, friendly stables offering riding tailored to individual needs whether you are a total beginner, norvice or experienced rider. They cater for singles, family groups, adults and children over five years.

  Royal Welsh Show Ground

The cottage is only 20 minutes drive from the show ground , where events are staged such as the Royal Welsh Show, the Winter Fair and the Smallholder and Garden Festival. As well as accommodating its own three events, the showground hosts a very busy calendar of other activities.
