National Cycle Collection

The bicycle has been part of the national consciousness for many hundreds of years, and is still an everyday object that many of us rely on for work, leisure and exercise. This museum carries a large collection of bikes that date from the earliest models and prototypes all the way through to the most modern and hi-tech pieces that exists today. Lose yourself amongst this interesting exhibition of bikes.

Walking in Mid-Wales

Mid-Wales offers some of the finest scenery, ranging from rolling hills, woodland and country lanes to open hills, reservoirs and mountains. If you enjoy walking then this is the place to be. At the cottage we have the local maps and already walked routes for the area. You can walk on your own or join one of the walking events we have here in Llanwrtyd Wells at various times of the year.

Mountain Biking

Llanwrtyd Wells was one of the first places in Wales to offer serious routes and fascilities for mountain biking. There are numerous routes direct from the cottage door step which explore the Irfon Valley, southern reaches of the Cambrian Mountains, Llyn Brianne and Dothie Valley (famed for a stunning single track route). Coed Trallwm is located up the valley from the cottage and offers three purpose built single track rails. There are routes to suit all abilities and range from 1 hour to spending the whole day exploring the stunning scenery. Route maps and guides are provided at the cottage. Bike hire is available in the town.

Royal Welsh Show Ground

The cottage is only 20 minutes’ drive from the show ground, where events are staged such as the Royal Welsh Show, the Winter Fair and the Smallholder and Garden Festival. As well as accommodating its own three events, the showground hosts a very busy calendar of other activities.

Red Kite feeding Centre

Mid Wales was home to the last remaining Native Red Kites. Now, due to the hard work of the Conservation bodies here in Wales, Red Kites are once again in ascendance and now we have the greatest density and diversity of birds of prey in southern Britain.

At Gigrin Farm the Red Kites are fed daily at 3pm (summer time) and 2pm (in winter), every day of the year. The number of Kites visiting the station can vary from a few dozen to more than four hundred, depending on the weather and the time of year. Gigrin Farm is approximately 30 minutes’ drive from the cottage.
